A good way to pass an exam is to work hard every day in a year. You may fail in an exam if you are lazy for most of the year and then work hard only a few days before the exam. If you want to be good at English, you have to read stories in English and speak English as much as possible. A few days before the exam you should go to bed early. Do not stay up late for the exam. Before you start the exam, read carefully over the question paper, try to understand the exact meaning of each question. When you have at last finished your exam, read over your answers. Correct the mistakes if there are any and be sure that you have not missed anything out.

You are watching a film in which two men are having a fight. They hit one another hard. At the start they only fight with their fists. But soon they begin hitting one another over the heads with chairs. And so it goes on until one of the men crashes through a window and falls thirty feet to the ground below. He is dead!Of course he isn't really dead. With any luck he isn't even hurt. Why? Because the men who fall out of high windows or jump from fast moving trains, who crash cars or even catch fire, are professionals(职业艺人). They do this for a living. These men are called stuntmen. That is to say, they perform tricks. There are two sides to their work. They actually do most of the things you see on the screen. For example, they fall from a high building. However, they do not fall onto hard ground but onto empty cardboard boxes covered with a mattress (床垫). Again, when they hit one another with chairs, the chairs are made of soft wood and when they crash through windows, the glass is made of sugar! But although their work depends on trick of this sort, it also requires a high degree of skill and training. Often a stuntman' s success depends on (依靠) careful timing(计时). For example, when he is "blown up" in a battle scene, he has to jump out of the way of the explosion (爆炸) just at the right moment.
Naturally stuntmen are well paid for their work, but they lead dangerous lives. They often get seriously injured(受伤), and sometimes killed. A Norwegian stuntman, for example, skied over the edge of a cliff (悬崖) a thousand feet high. His parachute failed to open, and he was killed. In spite of(不管) all the risks, this is no longer a profession for men only. Men no longer dress up as women when actresses have to perform some dangerous action. For nowadays there are stunt girls too.

A. often dress up as actors B. prefer to lead dangerous lives
C. often perform seemingly dangerous actions D. often fight each other for their lives
47. Stuntmen earn their living by ______.
A. playing their dirty tricks B. selling their special skills

48. When a stuntman falls from a high building, ______.
A. he needs little protection B. he will be covered with a mattress
C. his life may be in danger D. his safety is generally all right
49. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Stuntmen are not dangerous all the time. B. Stuntmen are not always safe.
C. Stuntmen live a very happy life.
D. Stuntmen don’t get much money for their performance.
50. What can be got from the writer' s example of the Norwegian stuntman?
A. Sometimes an accident can happen to a stuntman.
B. Accidents are impossible to happen.
C. Parachutes must be of good quality. D. The cliff is too high.

A year ago,I paid no attention to English idioms, though my teacher emphasized(强调)the importance again and again. But soon, the importance of English idioms was shown in an amusing experience.
One day ,I happened to meet an Englishman on the road ,and soon we began to talk .As I was talking about how I was studying English ,the foreigner seemed to be astonished(惊讶) .Gently shaking his head ,shrugging(耸)his shoulders ,he said,“You don’t say!” “You don’t say!” I was puzzled(疑惑不解) .I thought , perhaps this is not an appropriate(适当的)topic. “Well, I’d better change the topic.” So I said to him. “Well, shall we talk about the Great Wall? “Oh yes, I’d love that.”
After a short ride, the boy turned and with his eyes shining, said, “Paul, would you mind driving in front of my house?”
Paul smiled a little. He thought he knew what the boy wanted. He wanted to show his neighbors(邻居) that he could ride home in a big car. But Paul was wrong again. “Will you stop where those two steps are?” the boy asked.
